Library (Melbourne campus) - Extended Hours
This service is for current La Trobe University students and staff and La Trobe Melbourne students and staff.
In 2011 we conducted a trial of extended Library opening hours. This proved to be so popular that these hours are now in place on an ongoing basis, operating during semester (including exam periods).
Level 1 (ground floor) of the Library is open for use during the extended evening hours. It operates as a study hall with limited library services.
If you plan to use the Library during extended hours register your student or staff card at least 24 hours before you seek to gain access.

For safety reasons, each evening the Library is cleared (everyone is asked to leave the building) at 10:00pm Monday to Thursday and at 6:00pm on Fridays. If you then wish to re-enter, swipe your student/ staff card via the units near the main entry .

Semester 1: Weekdays - Monday 27 February to Thursday 28 June (except for public/University holidays)
Semester 2: Weekdays - Monday 23 July to Thursday 22 November
Library services available
During extended hours, only Level 1 (ground floor) of the Library is open operating a limited service.
The Reserve area, including copiers and self-check machines, are open and staffed until 12:00am (midnight). Fine payments cannot be taken and the research help desk staff are not on duty. At midnight, the Reserve closes and a security guard is on duty.
The security guard regularly patrols the floor and monitors cameras from the security guard station in the foyer.
Unfortunately, we can't provide access to collaborative classrooms. The study booths, group study rooms and open study areas on Level 1 are available for use.
The Research Help, IT Student Help and Inquiry desks on Level 1 are not staffed and Levels 2 and 3 of the Library are not accessible.
Register your student or staff card for access
To provide a secure environment for all Library users during extended hours please register your student or staff card before you seek to gain access.
To register, complete the Access Registration Form. Access should be available within 24 hours of submitting the form.
If after 24 hours you have not received access, please contact Security directly on 9479 2012.

Security arrangements
A Security Guard will be available in the Library during extended opening hours. The security desk is located in the Library foyer.
There is a security bus service available that operates until 1:00am. This bus will deliver you to your car, public transport point or college within La Trobe University grounds. Once the security bus service stops for the evening the Library Security Guard can ring Security to organise an escort for individuals who are leaving the building after this time.
