Text

Quel sole che nutrica 'l gentil fiore.
discende talor gi· per veder quello
ch'a lui di lui par esser pi· bello.

Poi ch'alquanto seco ha contemplato.
ritorna su e riferisce a li dei
l'amirabil belleza di costei.

Or sol in alto ciel di tuo biltate
laudan gli angioli la somm'onestate.

Translation

The Sun descends sometimes
to look at the gentle flower he is nourishing.
which seems to him more beautiful than himself.

When he has admired her for some time
he goes back to heaven
and relates to the Gods her admirable beauty.

And now only in high heaven the angels praise
the excellent purity of your beauty.
