Service Charter
This Charter sets out the standard of service you can expect from La Trobe University Library. With your assistance and feedback, we seek to continuously improve our service by responding to the changing needs of our community.
The Library is dynamic and innovative, extending access and services beyond its physical boundaries to the virtual environment. As the key provider of quality information for the University, we are committed to achieving the highest standards in the provision of information resources and services to advance teaching, learning and research, and to foster lifelong learning. We aim to be proactive and flexible in serving our community.
The Library will:
- provide access to information resources in a variety of formats
- deliver a range of high quality information services to our students, staff and the community
- make available a range of study facilities and equipment at each of the campus libraries to facilitate your learning and research needs
- provide an environment that is secure, supportive and stimulating
- ensure opening hours are as extensive as resources allow
- regularly communicate with you so that you are well informed about changes and new developments.
Library staff will:
- provide relevant and knowledgeable advice about the library environment and services
- respond efficiently to your requests and queries
- encourage you to develop independent learning and research skills
- treat you with fairness and courtesy
- respect the confidentiality and privacy of your information
- assist you to utilise the technology required to access information
- work collaboratively with academic staff and students to
- continue to build excellent collections of resources
- ensure the relevance and efficiency of our services through regular library surveys and the monitoring of your feedback
- provide training programs in support of the diverse teaching and research programs of the University.
We ask you to:
- participate in library information and research skills programs to maximise learning opportunities
- communicate with us by contributing suggestions to improve library services and resources
- be aware of, and abide by, University and Library Regulations and observe legal requirements when using library resources and facilities
- treat other library clients and library staff with consideration and courtesy
- handle books, audiovisual and other materials with care and return them on time
- help to conserve the library space as a pleasant and scholarly environment by treating the library premises, furniture and equipment with care.
