Improvements Since the Library Survey 2002
Since the survey in May 2002, the Library has focussed efforts to improve the areas which were identified as important to library clients, and where there were gaps between performance expected by the client and their perception of that performance.
All campus libraries
The library collection, including electronic resources, is adequate for my needs.
Additional electronic databases and journals have been made available at all campus libraries since the survey was undertaken.
Information resources (books, electronic, etc) are easily accessed.
Since the survey the number of information workstations has been increased at most campus libraries, thus facilitating access to the catalogue and electronic resources. New authentication software has been installed which enables off campus access to databases without the need for users to reconfigure their browsers. A new page for finding electronic journals has been implemented which utilises the search software of the library catalogue. Access to electronic databases has been made easier by redesigning the pages that guide users to resources by subject.
Off campus access to electronic databases is easily available.

Albury-Wodonga
Since the survey was undertaken the library has been relocated to a new purpose built building. This has enabled major improvements to services and facilities.
Number of computer workstations is adequate.
43 computers are now available for public use, with 15 of these in the library's dedicated Training Room.
Photocopying facilities are adequate.
Since the survey the photocopier system has been replaced, with an increase in the number of machines available to the public and replacement of the previous card access system.
Printing facilities are adequate.
The library has installed an additional printer attached to the public workstations to cope with the increased demand.
Group study facilities are adequate.
The new library building has 4 group study rooms and a mixture of seating, with tables in some public areas which can be used for quiet consultation.
Bendigo
Number of computer workstations is adequate.
The number of public access computer workstations has been increased to 43. Microsoft Office products are installed on 18 of these machines. A booking system has been introduced to guarantee access to workstations at the time required by a user. A lack of space within the library prevents further expansion.
Photocopying facilities are adequate.
All public photocopiers have been replaced with new digital copiers. Instructions are provided for efficient use. The card payment system has been totally replaced since the survey was undertaken.
Prompt corrective action is taken regarding missing books and journals.
Procedures for missing books and journals have been revised and the lead time in replacement of items has been shortened.
Computer facilities and electronic equipment are adequate.
All catalogue workstations have been replaced with more powerful computers since the survey was undertaken.
Printing facilities are adequate.
An additional printer has been installed. The card payment system has been totally replaced. All computer workstations have been enabled for printing.
Electronic equipment is in working order.
A process has been put in place to ensure all other equipment is regularly checked, and out of order equipment is rectified as soon as possible.
Bundoora
Number of computer workstations is adequate.
Since the survey was undertaken 14 additional public workstations have been added on Level 2 and use of the workstations in the audiovisual area is no longer restricted to audiovisual materials. An additional 20 workstations with Microsoft Office products have been installed on Level 3 in the south stairwell lobby (near the Agora end of the building). The total number of workstations where Microsoft Office products can be used has been increased to 116.
Photocopying facilities are adequate.
13 public photocopiers have been replaced, with the result that all copiers are no more than two years old. The card payment system has been totally replaced since the survey was undertaken and has dramatically improved in its operations.
Prompt corrective action is taken regarding missing books and journals.
Procedures for addressing missing books have been reviewed and streamlined so that replacement copies, where required, are ordered more promptly. Targets have been set to speed up processing. Missing journal issues are more difficult to replace however work is underway to improve the identification of missing issues and seek alternative means of access to content.
Computer facilities and electronic equipment are adequate.
65 of the existing workstations have been upgraded, or replaced with more powerful computers since the survey was undertaken. The number of workstations with Microsoft Office products has been increased to 116 and the number of workstations available for email use has been increased.
Information resources (books, electronic, etc) are easily accessed.
Measures have been taken to facilitate access to the reserve collection, including digitisation of some resources so that these are available via the library web site. Material in Storage is now available for self-requesting via the catalogue.
Opening hours meet my needs.
The weekends on which extended hours operate prior to examinations have been adjusted in response to client demand and usage statistics. Further extension of opening hours is not possible within the constraints of the Library budget.
Books and journals are reshelved quickly.
Adjustments have been made in over-crowded areas of the book and journal collections that will facilitate reshelving. Processes are in place to regularly review the shelf order of the more heavily used areas of the book and journal collections and take remedial action where required.
