Library Survey 2004 - Summary
Summary of the Survey
There were 1824 responses to this year's survey and thank you to everybody who took the time to provide us with feedback. The survey was conducted at the Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Bundoora, Mildura, Mt Buller and Shepparton campus libraries. The results have now been analysed, providing the Library with a clear indication of the levels of importance of our range of services to you, and how well you think they are being delivered.
This biennial survey is now being undertaken by 37 academic libraries in Australia and New Zealand , and is a national benchmarking tool. It is co-ordinated through CAUL (Council of Australian University Librarians) and the analysis is undertaken by the Rodski Behavioural Research Group.
The analysis of results indicates that La Trobe University Library continues to perform in the highest quartile (top 25%) of libraries in the following categories:
- Communication
- Service quality
- Service delivery
- Library staff
The general level of satisfaction with the Library is high, with 81% rating their level of satisfaction as 5 or higher (on a 7 point scale). Similarly, the general assessment of quality of the Library is also very high, with 85% rating this as 5 or higher (on a 7 point scale).
The results can also be compared with the results of the 2002 survey and show a slight improvement overall.

Areas for Improvement
The key issues identified in the survey analysis which the Library needs to address are
- Number of computer workstations
- Adequacy of computer facilities and equipment
These issues are now being investigated in more detail by each of the campus libraries.
