Library Survey 2006 - Summary

Summary of the Survey

Many thanks to those who responded to the Library Survey, undertaken in April/May this year. We had nearly 4,000 completed online survey forms from staff and students at the Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Bundoora, Mt Buller, Shepparton and Mildura campuses.

The results indicate that the general satisfaction level and rating of quality of library services have improved since the 2004 survey, now placing us in the first quartile (or top 25%) when compared to other Australian and New Zealand libraries in the database. 85% of respondents rate their level of satisfaction as 5 or higher (on a 7 point scale) and 89% rate quality as 5 or higher.

However there are still areas which have been identified as continuing to need improvement. The top two issues for the library to address are:

  • The library collection including electronic resources is adequate for my needs. This is ranked as the 2nd most important factor by respondents (out of 36 factors), but is rated 26th in terms of current performance
  • Access to computers to support study/research in the library is adequate. This is ranked the lowest of the 36 factors in terms of performance

The library is also undertaking more detailed analysis of the survey results by campus, to enable specific improvement strategies to be put in place at that level as well. As with previous surveys, the library will provide annual updates on improvements being undertaken.
