Thank you to the students and staff who responded to the 2008 Library Client Survey. Nearly 4,000 responses were received from across the campuses.

Overall satisfaction remains high, with the survey respondents rating La Trobe University as 5.42 out of a possible high of 7, and placing us in the top 50% of university libraries in the survey database.

The highest performing category continues to be Library Staff. The score of 87.3% places the Library in the top 25% of the 40 academic libraries in the database.

One very interesting change observed in this survey is frequency of library visits. 31% of respondents say they now come into the Library on a daily basis (up from 13% in 2006, 17% in 2004 and 15% in 2002). A further 47% visit the Library 2 to 4 days a week. This correlates with the 10% increase in library visits (or nearly 60,000) recorded so far this year at the Bundoora Campus library. This has placed severe pressure on the library facilities and equipment and our benchmark score in this area has declined since previous surveys. The biggest challenge continues to be providing adequate numbers of computers for study/research.

We are now undertaking more detailed analysis of results and developing improvement strategies across the libraries. The Library will continue to provide annual updates on improvements being undertaken.
