Library Facilities
The Library provides many facilities to staff and students. They include:
Facilities for People with Disabilities
The Library aims to provide the assistance necessary to maximise the accessibility of library resources and facilities for students with either a temporary or permanent disability.
New students with disabilities who consider they may experience difficulty
in using the library's facilities and require special services should
contact:

TAFE students -
Disability Liaison Officer Ms.Bette Hume (02) 6055 6662.
Those officers will then contact the Library to discuss the kind of assistance needed.
Facilities for people with disabilities include:
- A lift between Level One and Level Two is situated opposite Open Reserve.
- Dedicated equipment - Group Study Room 1 features a computer workstation with specialised speech synthesis software, OCR software, a scanner, a magnifying screen, and a telephone link. Two hour bookings may be made at the Information Desk.
- Ergonomic furniture.
- Staff aid - Library staff can organise services such as retrieval of items from shelves, arrangements for extended loan periods or computer access time, assistance with enlargement of photocopies.

Computer Facilities
The Library has information workstations available on both levels of the building:
- Access to the Library Catalogue is available on five dedicated workstations on Level One and two workstations on Level Two. Printing from these workstations is not available.
- The student workstations on Level One require a login using the La Trobe University student/staff Active Directory name and password (similar workstations are available to TAFE students and staff). They provide access to the Library Catalogue, the Internet and the La Trobe University network. Printing is available from these workstations. See Photocopying and Printing below for details.
- Full versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are available on all workstations that have printing facilities.
- There is no time restriction on the workstations but students are advised that they may be asked to share access during busy times.
- All Group Study Rooms also contain a workstation which may be used by students.
- The Library now provides access to a Wireless Network. Click here for further information.
- Clients should immediately save or finish printing once the Library closing announcement is made.
- Please ensure that you virus-check all disks before using them in the Library computers.
Places to Study
The Library provides quiet study areas as well as four group study rooms.
- Group Study Rooms operate under a booking system. You can use these rooms for up to 2 hours. Bookings can be made at the Information Desk.
- Group Study Room 1 contains specialised equipment for people with disabilities. A computer workstation is present for student use. Priority on this room is given to students with disability.
- Group Study Rooms 2, 3 & 4 contain a VCR/DVD player and a computer workstation.
- Carrels and tables for private study are situated around the Library on both levels.
- Food and drinks (except bottled-water) are not to be consumed in any of these areas.
- Please keep noise levels to a minimum - other students are studying.
- Please turn your mobile phone off.
Photocopying and Printing
Transact La Trobe - A new printing and photo-copying system
In February 2008, a new photo-copying and printing system called Transact La Trobe was installed and is now operating in the David Mann Library and the Computer Labs.
Please note that at the Albury-Wodonga campus, your La Trobe University student card is now used for printing or photocopying. Extra credit can be added to the card by adding cash to the reload dispenser in the Library or via credit card. For more details about using your credit card, click here.
Plain and colour photocopying is available. Instructions are posted near all equipment and desk staff will answer enquiries and offer assistance. In case of paper jams or other technical problems seek help from library staff.
Registering your student card
It is necessary that you register your student card before using it to photo-copy or print. This is a once-only procedure. Register your card at the computer located in the photo-copy room (Level One) in the Library and folllow the instructions provided. Ask at the Information or Loans Desk if you require assistance.
Location of photo-copiers and printer
There are self-service photocopiers situated on both levels in the Library with a new colour photo-copier now located in the photo-copy room (Level 1). Computer workstations on Level 1 are linked to a laser printer.
Information for TAFE staff, students and visitors
TAFE staff, students and visitors will simply purchase a casual card from the dispenser and reload it, much as you did before. Keep the receipt issued and write your name on the back of the card in case of loss.
Printing and photo-copying charges
Photocopying (B&W) and printing is charged at the rate of 12c per A4 sheet. To minimise printing costs and save paper, students may download to disk or print two pages onto one. Photocopy enlargements to A3 size costs 24c per sheet. Colour photo-copies are 42c for an A4 copy and 77c for an A3 copy.
Care of your card
All cards should be treated with care during their lifetime and not subjected to crushing, bending, excessive heat, exposure to other magnetic fields, immersion in water, etc.
Copyright
Copying must comply with the Copyright Act which limits the amount and nature of copies. Carefully read the notice near each machine before copying.
Microfilm/Microfiche
The Library provides access to material on microfilm/microfiche.
- Past newspapers and some journal articles are available on microfilm and may be viewed and printed from a special reader.
- Microfiche may also be viewed but the machine will need to be adjusted.
- Copies are available from this machine, at 12c per copy.
- Please ask the Reference staff for assistance.
VCRs and DVD players
The Library provides access to VCRs and DVD players.
- Two VCRs are available in the Audiovisual Collection area. Ear-phones are required in order to reduce noise. Patrons are requested to use their own ear-phones.
- DVD/VCR players and remote controls are available for use in Group Study Rooms 2, 3 and 4.
Audio Tours of the Library Services
The Library conducts group guided tours during Orientation Week (Semester One). If you missed out on one of these tours, we now offer an audio tour via an mp3 player. Please ask about this service at the Loans Desk. The tour takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Library Conference Room
The Library Conference Room is available to staff only for meetings and presentations.
- The room is equipped with a workstation and Internet connection, a data projector, an overhead projector, a whiteboard and a telephone and can be used for small group video conferencing.
- Bookings are necessary. Please contact Meg Clarke.
Library Training Room
The Library Training Room is equipped with a training workstation, data projector and 14 workstations. Please contact Ms.Linda Sheridan, Campus Librarian on 02 6024 9747 or the Information Desk 02 6024 9746 for details on the use of this room.
