Bendigo Library Collections
Main Collection, Quartos & Pamphlets
Books collected and available for loan to support the teaching and research undertaken at the Bendigo campus. (Located on level 2)
Books that are oversized and housed on separate shelving from the main collection. The Quartos collection covers all subject areas and available for loan. (Located on level 2)
Pamphlets and print items available for loan that are under 50 pages and housed in a separate location. (Located on level 1)
Reserve
This collection is high demand books and readings nominated by academic staff for course work. The materials housed in this collection can be borrowed for limited periods of time during the day and are available for overnight loan.
The Reserve collection is housed at the lending service desk and requires students to request items from the Reserve desk. (Located on level 1)
Periodicals / Journal Collection
Print journals are collected covering all the subject disciplines taught at the Bendigo campus. This collection is available for use by students and staff within the library for their research. (Located on level 2)
Audio Visual Collection
Videocassettes, CD Roms, DVD's and multimedia packs collected to support the courses taught at the campus. (Located on level 1) A collection of topographic maps is housed adjacent to the Reference Collection
Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Resource Centre contains materials collected for the use by student teachers. The collection incorporates primary and secondary level fiction and non fiction books, picture story books, audiovisual materials, equipment used in classrooms and posters and charts. (Located on level 1)
Newspapers
Historical newspapers and current papers including The Age, The Australian and The Australian Financial Review are collected in microfilm format. The historical newspapers include regional papers: The Rochester Express 1874-1892, The Nathalia Herald and Picola, Narioka, Katupna and Moria Advertiser 1891-1903, The Digger 1972-1975, The Weekly dispatch 1863, The Bendigo Advertiser 1856-1940, Elmore Standard 1912-1920, The Eaglehawk Leader: and California Gully, Long Gully, Ironbark, Sailor's Gully, Pegleg Gully, Myers Flat, Epsom, White Hills, 1871-1883. (Located on level 1)
Reference Collection
The Reference Collection contains general and subject specific encyclopaedias, directories, dictionaries, and primary sources for each subject area. The reference collection is not for loan. (Located on level 1)
Thesis Collection
The Thesis collection houses Masters and PhD theses produced by students and staff at the Bendigo Campus. Theses are available for loan. (Located on level 1)
Stacks & Store
Library resources that are rarely used are housed in stacks or at the Store (offsite storage). Access to any items held at these locations can be requested via an electronic form or in person at the Loans Desk. Items requested are collected on a weekly basis for pickup by clients at the Loans Desk. (Items not located in the library)
Special Collection & Sandhurst Collection
The special collection houses valuable publications including old and rare books and limited editions. A particular strength of this collection is the material covering regional topics. (Located on Level 2). The Sandhurst Mechanics Institute Library online collection is a small searchable database maintained by Peter Thompson.
Access to the Special Collection.
Material from the special collection is not for loan and can be consulted in the Information Resource Services workroom within the Library between the hours of 9.00-5.00pm Monday - Friday. Access to a photocopier is also available for staff and students to use in this area. Staff and students wanting to view items in this collection need to request access via the Information Desk. The Librarian on duty will organise access including during evening and weekend library hours.
Sandhurst Collection
The Library houses the remaining volumes of the Sandhurst Mechanics Institute Library. This collection dates from 1854 and was used by many famous Bendigo residents during the late 1800's. Items in this collection are not listed in the Library Catalogue and are not available for loan. Access to the collection is the same as for the Special Collection. (Located on Level 2).
