Computer Facilities

When using the computer facilities in the Library, priority is given to Staff and Students of La Trobe University.

PC Workstations

PC workstations are available on both levels and mezzanine floor of the Library. Access to the Library Catalogue and Internet is available on all workstations.

  • Stand-up express workstations (OPAC's) are primarily for searching the Library Catalogue. These workstations have Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint viewers only. 16 OPAC machines are available.
  • Full versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint are available on all other workstations.
  • The workstations in the Training Room are made available for general use when there is no training scheduled.
  • Workstations provide access to university programs such as LMS (formerly WebCT) and Lectopia - lectures online.
How to Print

La Trobe University Staff and Students are issued with a La Trobe Card, which provides access to a Transact La Trobe account. You can print using credit on your Transact La Trobe account, add credit to the account using one of the reload machines in the library or elsewhere on campus. CAVAL and other library users may purchase a $2.00 recharge card which can be used for both printing and photocopying. Please note the card number in the bottom left hand corner which you will need to provide in case of difficulties or loss of the card. If you wish to personalise the account so that it can be identified by the account name you give it rather than the number on the card, contact the Bendigo Printery.

Where to Print

There are 3 public Self-Service Printers available. Two are located on Level 1 (the training room and near the bank of workstations across from the Information Desk). The third printer is located on the mezzanine floor.

  • Printing is available from all numbered workstations located in the Library
  • Printing can be collected from any one of the printers
  • Printing can be paid for by using credit on your Transact La Trobe account.
Care of cards

All cards should be treated with care during their lifetime and not subjected to crushing, bending, excessive heat, immersion in water, etc.

Damaged La Trobe Cards should be presented to staff at the University Card Services.

Mechanical difficulties

Please refer any problems with printing quality, paper jams, or machine breakdowns to the staff on the Information Desk.

Other Computer Facilities
  • A Wireless Network is also available for La Trobe Staff and Students in the library.
  • Scanning is available in the Library. Currently there are 2 A4 scanners available, one with an automatic document feeder.
  • There is an Assistive workstation for disabled students and staff. It features an ergonomic, fully adjustable desk, a 19" screen, JAWS software, Scanner, Screen Reader, Zoom Text, CD writer and a closed circuit TV for enlarged document viewing.
  • A dedicated computer is connected to the Microfilm/Microfiche Scanner. This enables users to save, print, edit and email documents stored on Microfilm/Microfiche.
