This week’s featured e-book

Every week during semester a new e-book from the LTU catalogue will be featured on the blog.

This week’s e-book:

Gender, sexuality and colonial modernities, edited by Antoinette Burton

‘This interesting collection of articles is firmly in the vanguard of recent important reconceptualisations of the colonial epoch… The editor has a well-earned reputation for pioneering research into gender and imperialism and this volume carries this research one step further into the domain of sexuality.’

Celebrate International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (held on 8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

Why not join in by checking out The Perdita Manuscripts via the library catalogue?  Produced in association with the Perdita Project based at the University of Warwick and Nottingham Trent University, “Perdita” means “lost woman” and the quest of the Perdita Project has been to find early modern women authors who were “lost” because their writing exists only in manuscript form.

All the manuscripts were written or compiled by women in the British Isles during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and they have been sourced from archives and libraries across the United Kingdom and the USA.  They include Account Books, Almanacs, Auto/Biography, Calligraphy, Culinary Writing, Diaries, Drama, Historical writing, Medical writing, Prose, Religious writing, Travel writing and Verse.

E-books & how to find them

E-books are a great resource and the Library has more than 20,000 titles available. Benefits of using e-books:

  • they are accessible around the clock, regardless of location
  • you can search within text
  • high quality content
  • they are never ‘on loan’ or waiting to be re-shelved; and
  • no library fines!!

Learn how to find e-books with our ‘Finding e-books’ LibGuide.

Computer queues at Bundoora

Why are there queues for computers and printing in the Library at Bundoora? The queues are partly due to the Redevelopment Project.

All 54 of the computers from level 1 (now a building site) were relocated to level 2 over the summer. Staff have worked hard to ensure this happened in time for start of semester. This opportunity was used to replace 36 of the older computers with new ones. Unfortunately, due to a few software problems, their release for use has been held up.  Getting these new computers operational is currently our highest priority.

We have attempted to provide more power points for laptop users. There have been more power points installed at the base of the west wall of level 2 (behind the boarded up stairway). This is not the most ideal location but it should make it easier for laptop users to recharge.

Additional printing is now also available on the east side of level 2, near the photocopy room.

We dislike queues as much as you do and we apologise for the inconvenience.  We encourage you to use the Study Hall in Glenn College where there are computer workstations available, or come to the Library when it is less busy (e.g. before 11am or after 3pm).

The current situation is temporary and when the new space on level 1 is completed mid year there will be much more room for you to study comfortably.

If you have problems with Library computers, please let staff know at ICT Student Support, located next to the Inquiry Desk.
