New Library space at Melbourne opening
Yes, it’s really happening! Most of your new library space is due to open just in time for Semester 2!
The new entrance (from the Agora), foyer, Reserve area, and the back window (north end), are still being finished and will not open until August, but all other new ground floor spaces will be open.
On Thursday 22 July, there may be some disruption to service at the main help desk due to the need to move these services down to Level 1.
What will be open on Level 1?
- Main service desk – Inquiries/ICT student help/Research help
- Reference collection
- New books/new journals
- Current newspapers
- Group study areas
- Library seminar room
- Collaborative classroom 1.01
- Collaborative workrooms 1.01 – 1.02
- Group study rooms 1.01 – 1.06
- Study booths 1.01 – 1.10
- Equity and access rooms 1.01 – 1.02
- Special collections reading room
- Transact La Trobe card registration machine
- Printers and photocopier
- Toilets
Access to Level 1 will be via the internal stairs in the Library.
What will stay on Level 2 until the new entrance opens?
- Library entrance
- Reserve/Hold shelf (to stay on Level 2 until Level 1 entrance open.)
- Return chutes (stay on Level 2 near current entrance, will move to near south-west corner, on west side of Level 1 [ground level] after full opening.)
Come and check out your new space and tell us what you think!

I was curious about how to book for a study booth? Is it done online or through the desk?
