EndNote X2 courses for September

Training @ La Trobe run EndNote X2 courses for academic staff and postgraduate students throughout the year.

Course dates for September are as follows:

EndNote X2- Getting Started

Bendigo- Monday, 13 September, 9.30am-12.30pm

Melbourne- Wednesday, 15 September, 9.30am–12.30pm

EndNote  X2- Importing References

Bendigo- Monday, 13 September, 1.30-4.30pm

Melbourne- Wednesday, 15 September, 1.30–4.30pm

ResearchSmart- online session

The online skill session, Sourcing materials from other libraries, is part of the library’s ResearchSmart skill development series.

Are you finding what you need for your academic studies? Do you know about document delivery, or how to request materials using interlibrary and intercampus loans?

This online LibGuide would be useful for new research students or anyone wanting to update their skills.

ResearchSmart skill development series

A series of 3 sessions is being conducted this semester, across all campuses, to support research students and raise awareness of the library’s resources and support services.

The first of the series is:

Measuring research impact

Wednesday, 25 August, from 11am-12pm

This session is for anyone who wants to find out more about what they are required to do to prepare for research, the terminology involved, and how the library can help. This is a great way to provide some background and a context to research before meeting with your Faculty Librarian for further assistance.

The library is conducting a survey for students and staff.

Senator Bob Brown- 11 August

La Trobe University’s “Ideas & Society Program” is presenting Greens’ Leader, Senator Bob Brown, as its speaker on Wednesday 11 August.

The event is free and open to the public.  It will be held at 12 noon in Union Hall at the University’s Melbourne campus in Bundoora.

The event will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of La Trobe University, Professor Paul Johnson.

Collection Development Framework

The Library has developed a draft Collection Development Framework which outlines the principles that ensure information resources are acquired in line with the University’s strategic teaching and research directions.

We invite you to look at the draft Collection Development Framework and give us your feedback via the online form.

eCoffee returns!

Following the successful 2009 eCoffee series, the Library and the eResearch office have collaborated to organise an exciting schedule of fortnightly eCoffee forums during second semester.

The first of the series- ‘The Evolving World of e-Science: Impact and Implications’, will be presented by University Librarian, Prof Ainslie Dewe.

The secrets of CINAHL & The mysteries of Medline

Beginning on Wednesday, 11 August, the Melbourne Health Sciences Librarians will be running weekly sessions for CINAHL and Medline databases.

These sessions will be held every Wednesday at 1pm, in the library and will alternate between the 2 databases each week. The first session will cover CINAHL.

This is an excellent opportunity for students and staff to brush up on their database skills, or a chance to catch up for students who may have missed their library session.
