eCoffee forum: Flexible development & large scale biological data analysis

The topic of the next eCoffee forum is: A flexible development environment for the analysis of large scale biological data.

Biologists today are faced with the challenge of analysing increasingly large amounts of data, sourced from a variety of instruments whose technologies are rapidly evolving. To keep up with this constantly changing environment, we are building a flexible development framework that can be used to quickly create and modify data pipelines that automate the processing and analysis of data.

Using workflow tools we can read disparate sources of information, process the data by integrating existing algorithms or third party software, and produce results that are further analysed and visualised with dedicated tools.

This flexible development environment allows scientists to concentrate on the analysis and interpretation of experiments rather than the development and maintenance of custom code to process and view the data.

This forum will be presented by Professor Liam O’Connor, Systems Biology and Bioinformatics, and Liz Milla, Scientific Programmer/Systems Admin, Molecular Sciences.

Date: Friday, 22 October
Time: 10am -11am
Venue: level 1, seminar room, Melbourne campus library
