What are you reading at the moment?

I’m in the middle of a few books. I’m reading Marian Keyes’ ‘Rachel’s Holiday’, which is making me think about rehabilitation and thought patterns (read more about this book on the author’s website). I’m also reading the third Hunger Games novel, Mockingjay, as well as Mansfield Park, by Jane Austen.

What do you read on

an international flight- chick lit or something enthralling but easy to read

a holiday away from it all- something easy to read, generally from a bestsellers list

a rainy afternoon- French literature is best consumed on a lazy, rainy afternoon. Flaubert, Zola and De Beauvoir are my very favourite.

Is there a book that has been influential or inspirational in your life?

Madame Bovary gave me a thirst for knowledge and began my love of French literature. It sparked a love of learning in me that won’t let go. I even have a quote from the book tattooed on myself!

The second seminar in this series is:

Using e-learning to enhance the teaching of vertometry

Date: Wednesday, 16 May, 12.30-1.30pm

Venue: Melbourne campus library seminar room

The vertometer is an instrument used to measure the power of lenses, including those in prescription glasses. Vertometry is therefore an important skill for Orthoptic students to learn. To improve students’ learning experience and develop more independence, an online resource entitled Introduction to Vertometry was developed in conjunction with the Curriculum Teaching and Learning Centre (CTLC). This resource has now replaced the vertometry lecture previously given to students. This seminar will present the results of an evaluation on the ways in which the resource influenced student confidence and learning.

Please RSVP by Monday, 14 May to FHSStaffdev@latrobe.edu.au
