Bundoora Library Redevelopment Project (2009 - 2011)
Learning spaces
Concept learning spaces
Improving amenities and learning spaces for students has been a priority area for several years for the Library. Changing styles of teaching and learning have created a greater need for collaborative and social learning spaces with access to technology.
Along with continuing demand for increased access to computer workstations, this has meant increasing usage of the Library space at Bundoora campus.
The images above give an example of the style of study spaces, adapted for the Bundoora campus Library environment that will be available in the Library after the redevelopment.
More seats and group study spaces
The existing Library has approximately 1300 seats. The Library redevelopment project will provide 850 additional seats in a variety of settings, as well as the seating in the open reserve area and the café near the entrance.
Adaptable learning spaces
There will be collaborative learning spaces with access to technology which are better suited to the needs of students and learning styles in 2010 and beyond.

The plans include additional group study rooms as well as collaborative class rooms and work rooms, and additional training and consultation rooms.
Study lounges for staff and postgraduate students
A special area will be available on Level 2 of the Library for staff who wish to study in the Library in a private lounge style environment. A postgraduate study lounge will also be available adjacent to the academic study lounge.
Social and exhibition space
A lounge/café area is planned near the new Level 1 entrance, which will provide a welcoming social and learning space adjacent to the Agora with 80 seats and gallery space. This area will also be a venue for exhibitions, book and project launches and other events for the campus community.
More quiet study areas
The location of the main service desks as well as social and collaborative learning spaces on Level 1 will allow Levels 2 and 3 of the Library to be reconfigured to allow for a better mix of quiet and group learning spaces. It is envisaged that the upper levels of the Library will be quieter as a result of this reorganisation.
