To search for reviews: select guided search. Search for the author’s name only.  Then from the results screen scroll down to “works about” and select review.

Factiva (News and Business Information)

Literature

Austlit
Use for finding reviews of Australian Literature. Do a Quick search for the author eg Helen Garner. Select the top entry which provides full information about the author and their works. Scroll down to "works about" and select the box "reviews" . This displays all the reviews of her writing in date order from the most recent.

Contemporary Authors
Good for finding the dates of the original publication, as well as providing the dates of reviews in the New York Times and Times Literary Supplement. Search your author eg Margaret Atwood. The bibliography at the end of the entry provides information about reviews in various publications.

APAFT
Use for searching for reviews of Australian literature. Search the author and title of the book in a keyword search.
Australian Book review is also available full text via APAFT

Expanded Academic
Use the advanced search. Put in the title of the book and the author, and in the remaining field enter book review. This will limit the search to reviews.

Factiva
Search major newspapers from around the world that publish book reviews eg the New York Times, the LA times, the Guardian, the Independent, the Australian, and the Age. A search on the book title and the author will find reviews - don't forget to alter the date to a range that includes the books publication date.

JSTOR
Is good for finding reviews of books published before online databases start their indexing of articles. eg The sound and the fury by William Faulkner (1929).
