Finding Book Reviews

Search Tips

  • Know when your text was published, it is most likely that reviews will be published soon after the publication of your book or article. Keep in mind that reviews of scholarly articles may take 2 to 3 years to appear
  • Check the dates of the database content, if the book was published before the starting date for the database you will need to use Printed Indexes
  • Knowing the place of publication can help with searching, e.g. Australian books are more likely to appear in Australian sources, eg APAFT. American books in American sources, eg American History and Life
  • Ensure that you have the correct spelling of the Author’s name
  • Use quotation marks around a title to search for an exact phrase, e.g. “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”
  • Remember that not all books or articles get reviewed so if your searches are continuously producing nothing, it is possible that your text has not been reviewed
