Frequently Asked Questions

What browser should I use?

The Library recommends you use:
For PC's

Internet Explorer 6 or higher
Netscape 7 or higher
Mozilla 1.6, 1.7.

For Mac's

Safari 1.2.3 (with OS 10.3)
Netscape 7 or higher
Opera.

When should I search using individual databases instead of LibXplore?

Search individual databases using the native interface if you want to use advanced search features such as:

  • subject thesauri e.g. Medline subject headings;
  • limit by publication type e.g. peer reviewed publications, literature reviews etc.;
  • limit by research methodology;
  • limit by date range;
  • limit by specific search fields.

If you need to perform a comprehensive search it is recommended that you use LibXplore to identify which databases are most relevant, and then search these databases using their native search interfaces.

Why can I only search eight databases simultaneously using LibXplore?

The number of resources that can be searched simultaneously is currently set at eight to ensure the fast and efficient retrieval of search results.

Why can't all Library electronic resources be searched using LibXplore?
Some electronic resources are not searchable using the LibXplore search interface due to software compatibility issues.
However there are links to ALL the Library's electronic resources from LibXplore. This means that you can link to these electronic resources from within LibXplore and then search them individually using the native search interface.
