General Collection
The General Collection contains books on a wide range of subjects, with more in-depth coverage for courses taught at the Melbourne campus of the University. It contains the main collection of book material not housed in specific collections such as Reserve, Reference, Storage, Annexe etc.
Use the library catalogue search box to locate material held in the General Collection. The location is recorded in the catalogue as 'Bundoora General'.
Items in the General Collection can be found on Level 3 of the Borchardt Library.
Nearly all the items are available for loan, with some items marked as only available for 3 or 7 day loan. More information about borrowing this material is available for students, staff and the community.
The material in the collection is arranged by subject according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system, consisting of numbers in the range 001-999 . Each book has a label on the spine or front cover comprising a Call Number . The Call Number is made up of the Dewey number and a number, called a Cutter number , which is used to arrange materials on the shelf within the same Dewey number.
Nearly all the items are available for loan, with some items marked as only available for 3 or 7 day loan. More information about borrowing this material is available for students, staff and the community.
A small number of items, such as some art books, are not for loan, and have stickers on the spine with the words "Not for Loan" .
