Transformations of "Tam Lin": An Analysis of Folktale Picture Books

Abstract

This article considers how two different versions of the traditional tale of Tam Lin, one by Susan Cooper and Warwick Hutton and the other by Jane Yolen and Charles Mikolaycak, approach the demands of both storytelling and the cultures of folklore.

Gavid Beagley is Lecturer in Children's Literature and Literacy at La Trobe University's Bendigo campus, Victoria, Australia, where he teaches units in Genres, History, Australian and Post-colonial children's literature. He has previously taught in secondary schools, and has been a school and university librarian.
