ERA: Citation Analysis

Citation analysis is a quality indicator in the ERA exercise. You need to know how to calculate the number of times your published research has been cited by other researchers.

You will need to use a number of the following databases/sources to track citations.

Please note:

  • As there is often an overlap between databases it is necessary to regularly check your citations and remove any duplicates.
  • The format for searching an author's name can vary from database to database. Be sure to search each variation i.e. Smith, A or Smith, Anthony or Smith, Tony
  • Database indexing of books, book chapters and conference papers is fairly limited.
