Borrowing Films
Academic staff members and their research assistants may borrow films as well as postgraduate students if authorised by their supervisors or heads of departments. General staff may request loans if the showing of the film or video is directly related to their university work.

What films and videos may be obtained and related costs
The majority of items are borrowed from the Cinemedia Access Collection at no cost. The requestor will pay the full cost of films and videos obtained from commercial suppliers. The requester will pay any overdue charges levied by the supplier. Note: Films and videos obtained from other libraries can be requested at Interlending and Document Delivery Services Desk at a cost to the requester.
Before submitting a request, it is essential to
- Check our catalogue to ensure that the item is not held in our Library.
- Check on the Internet for:
- ACMI 's home page and select "Search online catalogue" to check the ACMI video catalogue.
- National Film and Sound Archive If the item is listed, note the catalogue number of the film or video required.
Confirmation of your booking
Confirmation of your screening dates will be sent to you when confirmation is received from the lending library. If you have not received confirmation two weeks prior to your screening date please advise staff at the Audiovisual Desk/Interlending and Document Delivery Services Desk.Collecting your loan
The film or video is only available for the specific screening dates requested and it must be returned by the evening of the final screening date. If it is required for screening on two days then the requester is responsible for ensuring that it is locked in a secure place overnight.Returning loans
Please return all loans to the Audiovisual/Interlending and Document Delivery Services Desk together with a completed Screening Report. Please ensure that the film or video is not rewound.
Conditions of loan
- No charge may be made for admission to screenings.
- Films and videos may not be copied, in whole or in part, as this is a breach of copyright. They may not be lent to other persons or organisations.
- Films and videos are not lent for private or home screenings.
- The School is responsible for the cost of repair or damage to films and videos and for the cost of replacement of lost films and videos.
Do not repair damaged films and videos, but state the nature and cause of the damage on the back of the Screening Report. Always keep the projector clean and serviced regularly. It must be operated by a competent projectionist. - Films and videos must be returned to the Library by the due date. Borrowers who regularly fail to return items on time may cause the Library to be excluded from the lending service. Persistent late return will disadvantage not only your School, but the whole University.
Late returns disrupt the lending library's service to subsequent borrowers and involve extra expense. - The Screening Report must be completed by the borrower. The information you supply enables the lending library to assess its service and to be responsive to your needs.
