Ordering New Library Material

The Library relies on the specialist knowledge of academic staff to help develop the collection of print, electronic and other materials. However, all staff and students within the La Trobe University community are invited to recommend items which support University teaching, learning and research.

Please check the Library catalogue first as we may already hold the item.

About ordering library materials

It is important to submit your request(s) well in advance to enable sufficient time for ordering and processing. We want to ensure your materials are available on time. Please assist us by indicating the priority, or the date required for your request.

Items that are out of stock or out of print may take longer to acquire.

Average supply times for books published in Australia are around 5 weeks and around 6 weeks for US and UK titles. These averages include some titles that are supplied very quickly and others that will take much longer to arrive and do not include the time needed to process or get an item shelf ready. Materials published outside these locations and in other formats vary widely in the time they will take to acquire.

Material for Teaching and Learning

This core material (print, audiovisual, off-air and online) is needed to meet the course and subject/unit requirements at the campus where the students are studying. It may include titles which lecturers provide in printed lists as part of course guides, unit outlines, subject handouts, etc. Material on student reading lists is the Library's top priority.

Journals and Electronic Journals

These are titles, published on a continuing basis, which directly support academic requirements for teaching, learning and research. Normally all new subscriptions will be within the constraints of the available budget and the academic priorities of the University. New requests are reviewed and orders placed when the budget allows.

If you require a title, it may be possible to cancel a subscription of equal value no longer required by your School or Department. Please consult your Campus Librarian, or at Bundoora, your Subject Librarian.

Submit details of the journal required using the Journal Request Form.
