Places to Study

Group study rooms, lockable study carrels and audiovisual viewing rooms are available for use by La Trobe University students.

The Library provides quiet study areas for use by all clients, and carrels and tables for private study are situated around the campus libraries.

Study carrels are strictly for the use of one person, for silent study purposes. To ensure that the Library provides an appropriate environment for clients, conversation is not permitted except in areas designated for quiet conversation. (Library Regulation 15.2). The carrels are not sound proofed and any noise will disturb other clients. Talking and congregating in carrels is not permitted.

A Group Study Room will normally be used for course related matters. It should not be used for social matters. Groups of no more than 8 persons and no fewer than 3 persons may use the room at one time.

Audiovisual Viewing Rooms must be used for viewing course related materials. They are not available for social gathering or private study. Groups of no more that 10 persons and no fewer than 2 persons may use the rooms at one time.

Any items which are left in carrels will be removed each morning. Library material used in a group study room should be removed from the room when the group has completed it's session.

Smoking, eating or drinking are not allowed in any part of the Library.

Please report any damage in carrels or rooms to Inquiry Desk staff immediately. This includes reporting faulty locks or lights, as well as any vandalism. Theft occurs, therefore items of value should not be left unattended in locked or unlocked study carrels or rooms.

The Library takes no responsibility for personal items left in study carrels or rooms.
