Requirements

At La Trobe University, all PhD, Masters by research, and professional doctorate students are required to lodge a digital copy of their thesis in Research Online as a condition of graduation. The deposit process is mediated by Library staff.

Award of your degree is subject to two copies of your thesis being received by the Research Services Office. One of these copies must be in a computer file format (saved to a CD or USB drive). Both copies of your thesis must include a signed consent form. The Research Services Office will send your digital copy to the Library for deposit into La Trobe University Research Online.

Restrictions

La Trobe University provides public access to both print and electronic forms of all theses UNLESS the author has been granted permission by the University to restrict access. Requests for restrictions on access must be approved by the PVC Graduate Research who will determine the duration of restricted access.

Restricted access to theses should only be considered by an institution when a case is made and only agreed to in compelling circumstances. Such circumstances could include commercial confidences, but not simply the denial of access by other scholars to what purports, after all, to be an advance in knowledge. When granted restricted access should be for a limited time, and as short a period as possible.
