Abstract

Bill's New Frock provides a wonderful didactic tool for educators struggling to eliminate sex-role stereotyping in children’s literature. Recent research has "alerted both educators and the general public to the fact that schools are shortchanging girls" (Abilock, 1997). To reverse this trend, it is imperative to introduce students to books that discuss gender socialization.
