Text

Con gli occhi assai ne miro.
ma sol una nel cor ne tiene Amore.

per che sempre sospiro.
questo fo per iscudo.
e per me' ricoprire
da' mortal colpi che sentir mi fai.

E tu, sempre piu cruda.
tien freddo 'l tuo disire
e fa'mi traditor, nT ci= fu mai.

Dunque, Signor, che 'l sai.
scuoprile 'l mio dolore.
e dille: - E' muore
sanza colpa in martiro. -

Translation

I look at many women.
but Love holds only one in my heart.

That's why I always sigh.
I do that to shield myself
and better to protect me
from your mortal blows.

And you, ever more cruel.
cool your desire and make me out
to be a traitor, which never was true.

Therefore, you who know it, my Lord.
disclose my sorrow to her.
and tell her: "He's dying.
guiltless, in torment."
