In su la ripa del dorato fiume
fra molti spini trova' un bel fiore.
il qual io colsi con grazia d'amore.

Translation

On the banks of the golden river
I found a lovely flower among many thorns.
I plucked it, thanks to Love.

But that Lord who hears word of this.
loves the fruit if it's good, whatever the tree.
