Text

Non al su' amante pi· Diana piacque
quando per tal ventura tutta nuda
la vidi mezo de le gelid' acque

ch'a me la pasturell' alpestra e cruda
post' a bangnar el suo candido velo
ch'al sol e l'aura il vago chapel chiuda.

Tal che mi fece quand' egli arde 'l cielo
tutto tremar d'un amoroso zelo.

Translation

Diana's lover, when he saw her
by chance completely naked
in the middle of an icy stream.

did not like her more than I liked
the simple mountain shepherdess.
intent on wetting her candid veil
with which she encloses her beautiful hair in the sun and the wind.

So that she made me all tremble.
under the blazing sky, with amorous shivers.
