spero cum vermiglieti e bianchi fiori
da quella che tal gioia seco porta
e par tra l'altre pi· degna d'onore.
in chi tanta belta fa onesta scorta.
che per diletto in lei alberga Amore;
ond'io cotal segnore
priego ch'e' ponga fine a' miei ardori.

Senza tua ingiuria, Amor, i' priego lei
ch'i prieghi miei non sdegni s'ella t'ama
e ch'ella pietosa i desir miei
faccia contenti secondo suo brama

Translation

I hope for the joy of a new fragrance
of bright red and white flowers, from the lady
who brings with her such joy
and seems worthier of praise than any other.
Such seemly beauty escorts her
that Love finds pleasure in abiding with her.
Thus I beseech this Lord
that he may bring my ardour to an end.

Don't take offence, Love, if I also beseech her
not to despise my prayers, if she loves you.
but mercifully, according to her wish
to fulfil my desire
(for no beautiful lady
should stay stony and unloved).
