Ome' s'io gli omei sol io gli piango
che chi gli mi pu= tor non ha merzT.
col su' amor levando via gli omT.

Ondi'i' col lamentar sempre rimango.
e questa donna non mi tira a sT
col su' amor levando via gli omT.

- Quanti vi son -, me disse Dio, - ti mando.
e altra ch'essa tor via non gli de';
cos8 mancrai e' tuoi omei. - Amme!

Translation

Alas, since I am the only one to cry out 'alas!'.
as the one who can stop my laments has no mercy.
who could by her love remove my 'alas!'

I am therefore always left with my laments.
and this woman does not attract me to her.
removing my 'alas!' with her love.

- I am sending you, - God said, - these cries of pain, as many as they are;
and no other than she must take them away.
Thus you will be without your 'alases!' - Amen!
