Text

or ferendole l'uno, or l'altro fianco;

e la fiera stordir con un suo fischio;

n'ho di pel perso e cano 'l capo mischio.

Translation

At the time when the peasant, dejected
and tired through his past revelry.
gets up to reap the golden harvest.

It seemed to me that a deer, with horns, one white.
one black, was attacking a gentlewoman.
wounding her first on one side, then on the other;

and then, that another woman came to her help.
stunning the animal by whistling;
but she too appeared to perish.

Because of my amazement and the great risk.
the hair on my head has turned a mixture of black and white.
