Text

piacque ch'a morte non mi port'altronde.

Dunque l'amor, ch'al cor mi nacque in canto.
l'altere Parche 'l p=n privar di pianto?

Translation

Narcissus's body, which he liked so much
when he looked at himself in the watery mirror.
brought him to an unhappy end.

Similarly, my heart liked so much
my lady's hair adorned by the proud frond
that it may bring me to a not unlike death.

Can the haughty Fates preserve from tears
the love which was born into my heart through song?
